Rt3 and user account creation

I notice that when rt3 creates a new user account ‘on the fly’, it uses
the requestor’s e-mail address. I would like to use just the username i.e.
if bloggs@mydomain.uk submitted a ticket for the first time, an account
would be created with a username of just ‘bloggs’. Can anyone advise on
how to do this?

In lib/RT/User_Overlay.pm, there is a routine
CanonicalizeUserInfo(). Create User_Local.pm
and override this routine, adding what code you need.
%args will contain the initial Name and EmailAddress,
and you can adjust accordingly.
