RT Shredder indexes

Hi Ruslan,

are there any reasons why the indexes mentioned in the shredder CPAN module
(RTx::Shredder - Cleanup RT database - metacpan.org)
for the Transactions table didn’t make it into 3.8.x?

Hi Christian,
this is a good question, last week i had a longer discussion with some other users at the rt-users list regarding shredder and performance. You can read some test details (sorry, it is in german) at my page: http://blog.brumm.me/2009/11/rt-wie-werde-ich-altlasten-wieder-los/

I think the db indexes are simply forgotten.

There is no need in those indexes in core RT.
I believe the question was why, and you responded “because.”
That doesn’t help very much :stuck_out_tongue:

Hello,

It’s pretty good described on shredder’s page mentioned earlier. Most
of those indexes are not in use by RT during regular operations. Each
index increase size of your DB and slow down inserts and updates. Many
users don’t use shredder and we don’t want to penalize thier
instances.
