RT on perl 5.6.1

Hello All,

Can RT be installed on a system running perl 5.6.1. The system that I
want to run RT on cannot be upgraded to perl 5.8.0 because of some other
dependencies.

If yes, are there any specific things to be kept in mind and how do I go
about it.

Regards,
Ritu

But maybe you can install both at the same time and use 5.8.3 only
for RT…

I’ve been running RT 3 on perl 5.6 for 4 or 5 months with no problems,
other than getting the statistics add-on to show graphs. And, I have a
feeling that’s just because one of the perl modules didn’t load
correctly or is missing something. (In other words, if I just spent some
time I’m sure I could get that to work too, but I don’t need pretty
graphs right now…raw stats are fine).

We use attachments as well. So go ahead and give it a try. I’m sure it
will be fine (and if not… Ritu told you so :-)~ Just kidding.

It can, but you’re likely to run into all sorts of pain
with non-ASCII character sets (among other things). You
really want to install 5.8.3, even if it’s in its own
little RT-only sandbox.

I had to transition smoothly, which a major perl upgrade can make a
massive headache, so rather than upgrade perl (which has dependencies
across the poor little box RT runs on) I installed a new version in
/usr/local/bin2 (lame, I know…maybe opt would be preferable) and
compiled mod_perl and RT and all of the myriad modules against that, and
blammo! Less headaches, and I’m just now starting to think about moving
perl back to /usr/local/bin…though since I’m at 5.8.2, maybe I’ll do
the same switchy to get back.

Just make sure that you call the right perl when you CPAN.
