RT Feature Discussion: How do you feel about group e-mail addresses?

We have group mailboxes that are monitored by the current
on-call person. When we add groups as watchers in RT,
all members of the group get e-mail notifications. We
would like for only the group e-mail to be notified.

I have hacked this in to out local RT3, but would like
to see it officially supported.

How does everyone feel about an e-mail field for UserDefined
groups, along with a RT_Config option to only notify the
group e-mail address when it is defined, otherwise
notify the members individually. Or we could see the
option on a per-group basis.

Comments?

I’ve often wanted something like that.

I’d prefer to see a method of adding bare email addresses to a
group. And a method of only emailing some members of a group. I would
prefer not having a config option. Of course, I have no authority either.

What do you mean by “a method of adding bare email addresses to a
group?” With what I am proposing, each group would have a field
in which an e-mail address could be specified.

then we are in agreement. Though I’m not sure if you’re proposing
something that supports multiple email addresses or not.

Multiple email addresses for a group? Unless each one needs
to be handled differently, I would put them all in the same
field separated by commas and split them later.
