Problems running rt-mailgate

hello i am running

RT 2.0.13
linux 2.4.18-3
perl, v5.6.1

rt-mailgate does not run from the command line i keep getting this error

readline() on unopened filehandle DATA at
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/MIME/WordDecoder.pm line 579.

can anyone offer any suggestions?
