Problem with international characters (german umlauts) RT 3.0.9

Hello,

i have problems with german umlauts in messages which come in via
rt-mailgate.

It looks like the characters get converted twice to utf-8, and so become
4 bytes instead of 2 in the database.

Example:

In the web-interface i see the word “überprüfen”, but it should be
“überprüfen”.

Upgrade to perl 5.8.3 from 5.8.0 did not help.

Has anybody had this problem and has solved it?

did you rebuild mod_perl as well and restarted apache? Upgrade to perl
5.8.3 + rebuilding mod_perl should help definitely, which is my own
experience and which is documented throughout this mailing list.
