Patching RedHat breaks RT

I recently patched my RT server to the latest levels (it is redhat ES 4)
(yah I know, bad idea)

Unfortunately this horribly broke my RT install. I have managed to fix
and update most of the modules and issues I have encountered, but this
last one is puzzling, I can no longer get mail to go through
rt-mailgate.

From sendmail the error appears as so:

Jun 22 16:24:40 sauron sendmail[3436]: k5MKOeFT003435:
to="|/etc/smrsh/rt-mailgate --queue ‘operations’ --action comment --url
http://foo.bar.com/", ctladdr=operations@foo.bar.com (8/0),
delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=prog, pri=30574, dsn=4.0.0,
stat=Deferred: prog mailer (/usr/sbin/smrsh) exited with EX_TEMPFAIL

I tried a manual send with debug on and recieved the following:

[root@sauron dkemp]# /usr/local/rt/bin/rt-mailgate --queue operations

Google has come up short on tihs issue except for some solaris specific
bugs way back in perl 5.8.0
I have tried to force a reinstall of Sys::Syslog but it did not help.

Anyone who has any insight to this issue, please let me know.

Unfortunately this horribly broke my RT install. I have managed to fix

and update most of the modules and issues I have encountered, but this

last one is puzzling, I can no longer get mail to go through
rt-mailgate.
Rebuild Log::Dispatch from sources, don’t forget to run test suite.
Also, read http://wiki.bestpractical.com/index.cgi?NoConnectionToSyslog

From sendmail the error appears as so:

Jun 22 16:24:40 sauron sendmail[3436]: k5MKOeFT003435:
to="|/etc/smrsh/rt-mailgate --queue ‘operations’ --action comment
–url http://foo.bar.com/", ctladdr=operations@foo.bar.com (8/0),
delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=prog, pri=30574, dsn=4.0.0,
stat=Deferred: prog mailer (/usr/sbin/smrsh) exited with EX_TEMPFAIL

I tried a manual send with debug on and recieved the following:

[root@sauron dkemp]# /usr/local/rt/bin/rt-mailgate --queue operations

Google has come up short on tihs issue except for some solaris
specific bugs way back in perl 5.8.0 I have tried to force a reinstall

of Sys::Syslog but it did not help.

Anyone who has any insight to this issue, please let me know.

Best regards, Ruslan.

Patching Redhat (EL4) broke our system too.
Searches weren’t working and email correspondence wasn’t being sent out.

I followed the advice of someone else who had a similar error message to
the one I got when searching for tickets.

#This is what I did to fix it (force updated the perl Scalar::Util
module with CPAN)

perl -MCPAN -e shell
cpan> force install Scalar::Util

#then restarted apache
service httpd restart

Things seem OK now.
