I need to expand the list of status codes available to me without adding a custom field but can’t see a way of doing it via the GUI. Is it possible or do I have to get a sysadmin involved?

Status codes are set in the lifecycle section of RT_SiteConfig.pm, which is probably only available to someone with server access.
