Fresh install of RT5.0.10 on Ubuntu - No logs being created under /opt/rt5/var/log

Hello all,

I’ve got a working install of RT5.0.10 that I’m trouble shooting an issue on related to LDAP external authentication. I believe the RT log should be located under /opt/rt5/var/log, but the directory is empty. Permissions showed that root owned the log folder. I changed ownership/group of the folder to www-data, but it has not resolved the issue.

  1. I just wanted to verify I am looking for the logs in the right place.
  2. . I also wanted to verify if the current permissions are correct.

Current permissions:

arcit@helpdeskarc1corp:/opt/rt5/var$ ls -la
total 20
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Aug 31 21:43 .
drwxr-xr-x 10 root root 4096 Aug 31 21:43 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 www-data www-data 4096 Aug 31 21:43 log
drwxrwx— 5 www-data www-data 4096 Aug 31 21:43 mason_data
drwxrwx— 2 www-data www-data 4096 Aug 31 21:43 session_data

Typically the logs will be in the Apache logs unless you have a log directory configuration explicitly set. For permissions you can always run make fixperms

I don’t know about Ubuntu, but on our servers RT notice/warning/error messages ends up in /var/log/messages.

Thank you. I’ll give that command a try!

That’s where I figured, but no logs are being generated. I rolled back to a fresh 5.0.10 install and will run through it again.
