Autocreated users stripping rt@ from email addresses

I am using 3.0.7_01. When a user who has rt@ in their email address,
submits a ticket, rt does it’s thing - it autocreates the user. only in
this case, say sbart@whatever.com, rt strips the rt@ from the email address.
this users email address would then be sbawhatever.com. which breaks a
million things. any one know where i can start looking to fix this? many

Do you happen to have $CanonicalizeEmailAddressMatch set to somethinh
like “rt@” ?
