I am currently running RT 1.0.3 and am very happy with it. I want to
upgrade to 1.0.6, and being a clueless newbie, I would like to know what the
best procedure for that is.

you should be able to use the “unsupported” quick upgrade procedure:
Edit the makefile to fix RT_PATH.
run "make upgrade-noclobber"

‘“As the company that brought users the Internet, Netscape is now inviting
the more than 60 million people who have used our client software to
‘tune up’ and upgrade to Netscape Communicator,” said Mike Homer,
senior vice president of marketing at Netscape.’ Sometimes I wonder.
Is it possible to add a new column? Or is it static? I wanted to add a new
column with the value of HOURS. like in how many hours spent on a perticular
project.

I’m very interested in getting something like hours tracking working. Lemme
know how you do.
