Statistics package invalid?

I downloaded the stats package but neither winzip, gzip, or unzip see it
as a valid archive.

file data:

-rw-r–r-- 1 root root 20480 Jun 11 11:57 stats.tar.gz

Thoughts?

I found a lot of references in the archive to a statistics package

stats.tar.gz) doesn’t seem to be included in the archive.

Can anyone direct me to where I can get this, or perhaps send it to
me?

You sure you downloaded it as a binary, as opposed to ASCII?

Yup.

HTTP automatically negotiates that. I’ve never had a problem
downloading any tar.gz over it before at least.

Your browser apparently unzips things for you too.

Quite a helpful response. Thanks. Although I’ve downloaded countless
gz’s and never ever had this happen. I had forgotten about the file
command.
