Hello list,

First, my apologies for requesting help with installation, as I’m sure
everything is well documented and it’s simply a matter of me overlooking
something. I will however, give myself the limited credit of knowing the
importance of trying things on your own first. My issue now is that I’ve
spent 2 full work days on this, and my boss is looking for a result.
Currently I have nothing. I wouldn’t email if I wasn’t desperately looking
for a clue…

I’m going to list my problem here, and my system details below. Perhaps
this is the same problem everybody has, but I am truly stumped at this
point.

Problem.

In short, when I goto mydomain.com/rt I’m asked to download the file. The
index.html which is in /opt/rt3/share/html. At one point I had the page
displaying properly, but the page was just the meta-refresh which told my
installation was broken and instructed me to setup my apache to handle the
RT::Mason module. I thought that’s what I was doing by following the
installation guide. To get the page to stop asking me to download, I had to
changed my to <Location /opt/rt3/share/html>. This let the
page display, but got me no closer to the installation.

testdeps passes. As does the perl loader in “sbin/”. My error log speaks
nothing of missing modules or failed calls to anything related to RT. It
seems I have my server ready to handle this, but I suppose I"m unsure about
how exactly I do that, and what my next step is–maybe the next step is to
take Friday off and get some whiskey.

Thank you for any suggestions you may have. If anybody is truly bored and
feels like asking questions and offering advice, work still allows ICQ. My
number is 198-240-935. Thanks.

My system…

FreeBSD 5.1
Apache 1.3.31
mod_perl 1.29
Perl 5.8.6
mysql 4.0.17

My httpd.conf entry

Alias /rt “/opt/rt3/share/html”
AddDefaultCharset UTF-8

PerlModule Apache::DBI
PerlRequire /opt/rt3/bin/webmux.pl

<Location /rt>
SetHandler perl-script
PerlHandler RT::Mason

This is inside a previous VirtualHost on that system.

No, it works fine. Been running it on Apache 2 for months. Just mod_perl
isn’t as stable as it should be on Apache2.

Aw. How unstable is it?

Even easier with fast_cgi

Is this what you mean?

http://www.zanfur.com/rt3-contrib/AutoCreateFromExternalUserInfo/CurrentUser_Local.pm

If so, you can get it by clicking “edit” on the Wiki page,
which un-hides the link. If not, I don’t know.

Either way, best of luck!

Hi All,

This page from the wiki looks like exactly what I wanted, but the link
has been taken down and I can’t find anyone referring to a location
where I can get this script from.

Automatic account generation from LDAP

“”"

can anyone help out ?

What is easier with fast_cgi then with mod_perl?

My tests shown that if Apache is 1.xx then FastCGI is better.

  1. FCGI is faster then MP1, perfomance boost is around 10-15%.
  2. You have to build MP1 static usually.
  3. Didn’t test memory usage a lot.

Autrijus Tang said that with Apache2 MP2 has the same speed as FCGI but
use less memory.

Also want to say that MP2 works fine as DSO so you don’t need to rebuild
Apache if you want rebuild MP2 or/and perl.

Because many users doesn’t upgrade thier MP2 up to recent.
They can’t imagine that 1.99_07 is more then one year old or may be more.

My RT Apache2 was last restarted on November 13th and doesn’t generally need
restarting (that restart was for an upgrade to mod_perl - Version 1.99_17 -
Oct 22, 2004). It is running on one helluva box tho’

Do you have to restart apache2?
It’s what I have to do on my current server once a week… :-/

Well, if it works on apache2, then the problem comes from Gentoo.
I’ll check on their forums.

However what I am finding is that people use their LDAP logins to use
the web page, but when they reply to a request via email RT adds them
another account under the name of their email address. So people are
ending up with two User records in the database.

I’m not using LDAP but use mod_auth_pam to authenticate web access the same
way as unix system logins, checking first against the local passwd file then
against a windows domain controller. If a user sends email before I add
them to RT, it automatically creates an account with the full email address
as the login. I’ve
been manually removing the @domain part when I add privileges so the logins
will match the system. Is there a way to make this happen automatically for
email addresses in a few domains?

Hello,

I accidentally replied only to Jesse, so now to the list also:

Yes, the tables are MyISAM, so now i have to convert them or smth.
Only problem is that i have mysql from rpm and it does not support InnoDB, but
i can not find mysql-max package for fedora either.

Does anybody else have had this problem? what’s the best solution (install
some other Max rpm, e.g. from mysql.com, install from source or migrate to
postgres)?

Best,
Laas

Apache Settings are:

Default Charsets: UTF-8

I changed the order of the input email enconding, but with no success.

Encode::Guess.

The charset for localized email. Must be recognized by Encode.

Set($EmailOutputEncoding , ‘utf-8’);

i read that mod perl for debian might contains some problem with utf-8, so
i recompiled it outside from apt-get debian installer paket and cpan from
“fresh” plattform independent build.

The failure only exist if the mail is at mode: text/html

If i change my default charset settings of the internet explorer or
mozilla to western europe(windows) the complete history will be displayed
correctly, but then other charsets (e.g. the header will be displayed
wrong).

The message will be displayed correct (with automated charset settings of
ie) when i >>download<< it. This opens a new window and the charset ist
correct.

An example of a message that will be displayed in the history:

Also bitte schnellstm?ch pflegen.<<

Normally(i changed the umlauts to ae, oe…)

Wie bereits mehrfach erwaehnt wird die Tabelle auch fuer GUI benuetzt.
Also bitte schnellstmoeglich pflegen.<<

And the orginial version:

Wie bereits mehrfrach erwähnt wird die Tabelle auch für GUI benützt.
Also bitte schnellstmöglich pflegen.<<

The problem is to localize the problem. Might this error produced by
Debian, the mailer, the import from RT or from a perl package.? That is
the question at this point.

I will send a copy of this mail to the bug report mail adress from another
mail client (using html).

Thank you for your help in advance.

Best regards

I’m doing the same as you, Les, and have been wondering the same thing.

However what I am finding is that people use their LDAP logins to use
the web page, but when they reply to a request via email RT adds them
another account under the name of their email address. So people are
ending up with two User records in the database.

I’m not using LDAP but use mod_auth_pam to authenticate web access the

add
them to RT, it automatically creates an account with the full email

as the login. I’ve
been manually removing the @domain part when I add privileges so the
logins
will match the system. Is there a way to make this happen
automatically for
email addresses in a few domains?

We have another email generating dups - this time no mysql downtime. I’m
going to set the timeout on rtmailgate up from it’s default 180 seconds and
hope for the best.

I’ve seen this problem with and every time the email had an attachment. For
me, it’s been few and far between so it’s just been dealt with by deleting
the mail and merging or deleting the dups.

there was a --timeout flag for rt-mailgate but now I can’t find it. Anyone

the mail and merging or deleting the dups.

Does the e-mail have attachments?

We have another email generating dups - this time no mysql downtime. I’m
going to set the timeout on rtmailgate up from it’s default 180 seconds and
hope for the best.

Yep. I just checked it - rather large attachment. How can I increase the
timeout for rt-mailgate? Any ideas?

Well, I am using the tar file from Best Practical (2.0.4). Am I not supposed to use that package? I just took that and altered the Makefile to point to my RT installation. After much trial and error I was able to get RTFM up and running. I am about to do a clean installation using my notes from my last try. Is there any reason I should not use the 2.0.4 package?

Well it seems that none of those files were found in the correct
spot. I seem to be having some trouble with the way the Debian
package installs and getting all the right files for RTFM to go to
the right places. Does anyone have any suggestions. I did a clean
install of Debain again and I currently have RT 3.2 running
successfully, but I just can’t get RTFM to install. Or could someone
just point me to the correct place to find some Debian install
documentation? I have the .pdf file but that’s very generic and not
very helpful. I know there has to be someone out there who has used
the “apt-get install” procedure to get RT 3.2 running and RTFM.

I’m not sure if you’ve been using the rtfm package from Debian or not
but that only works for the RT 3.0 series. I have made a package based
on that one which will work with RT 3.2. You can grab my rtfm-rt3.2
Debian package from:

This is an unofficial package but I have vaguely tested it and I am
one of the maintainers of the request-tracker3 and request-tracker3.2
packages so you can trust me, honest…

You should read the file /usr/share/doc/rtfm-rt3.2/README.Debian. I
hope that gets you on your way.
