E-mail gateway

So, I"m a bit slow in these matters.

Mail gateway stuff. I understand when it says:

Add the following lines to /etc/aliases (or your local equivalent) :
rt-comment: “|/path/to/rt2/bin/rt-mailgate --queue general --action
comment”
rt: “|/path/to/rt2/bin/rt-mailgate --queue general --action
correspond”

But does that set up the mail gateway so that I can send mail to an rt
user (say, rt@tufts.edu) and open a ticket? more importantly, how do I
set it up so that the mail doesn’t get sent to the machine rt is on (ie,
the mail server is not on the same box) … ?
