Adding new fields to the web page/database?

How difficult is it to insert new fields into the RT "create a new report"
page?

For example, I want to add a field called “date reported” to the “create a
new report” page so the user can enter the date when the issue was first
reported. The current setup automatically assigns the “date created” to the
report, which may or may not be the same thing.

What steps are involved in modifying both the web page and the associated
database tables?

Thanks for the help,
Martin

Adding custom fields is currently a non-trivial task. one of the things
that I’m looking at for 2.2.x is the ability to add free-form custom fields
to RT. (In addition to the current ‘keyword selects’ mechanism). If this
is something your organization would be interested in helping to sponsor,
that would be really cool. Otherwise, it is coming, but I can’t promise
a date.

Thanks,
